A real bruiser of a T bus driver

Regular bus riders put up with a lot - but having a large man fall on you because the driver is getting ready for a bus rodeo is a bit out of the ordinary. Alison Stevens reports on a ride from hell on the 57 bus from Kenmore to Watertown around 6 p.m. on Monday:

... The bus driver kept slamming on the brakes and obnoxiously beeping his horn. He was swerving around cars like crazy and everyone was doing that sway where they try to use their body weight to balance against the erratically moving bus. These are the moments where you wonder if it ever gets so bad that people actually fall on the bus and how it would all go down if that happened.

He slammed on the brakes pretty hard and I was able to keep my balance, luckily I thought. But then there was the domino effect. I'm not sure who fell first. I do know that this pretty big guy fell on this girl, causing both to fall on the ground. But not before falling on me, throwing me against the hard plastic chairs and pinning me there. The bus driver never slowed and I remained pinned against the chair while the two other people tried to get up with the bus still swerving erratically. People were nice and they tried to help them up, asking them if they were okay. I tried to help pick up the things they dropped but I couldn't talk and I couldn't bend down and that's when I realized my leg was hurt. ...

How badly was she bruised? Check for yourself - she's posted a photo of her leg.

Was the bus driver very talkative the whole time and speaking with an accent? (Possibly Haitian but I am not sure) If so, I’ve had that guy as a driver before and he always drives like that. Since rides on the 57 are hardly ever fun, my best advice is do what I do and ride a bike back and forth from Boston to h20town at least from March to November when the weather is not too bad. You might get a bruise riding a bike, but there is no chance of having to sit next to someone with bad B.O. as you stop every 5 seconds at a Bus Stop or for a red light.

Get the number of the driver and report him. If the number isn't readily visible - it used to be on the badge on the hat, but not sure now - then ASK the driver for it. If he/she refuses, that's another thing to report - give the T the bus number, route, time of day.

If enough people complain about a driver, he or she will be disciplined in some way; at least taken off of that route.

I'm not one who pipes up with "litigation!" at the merest sign of discomfort, but good lord, that looks and sounds like a personal injury lawsuit ready to burst.

I ain't no lawyer, but really, I think the poster should get one. There's no excuse for the bus driver to be driving like that at all.
