Andrew Square Tedeschi's?

Anyone know what closed this place down, and what's happening with it? Not the greatest store in of itself, but it was indeed a convenience to have it across from the T stop, open later than the other hole-in-the-wall convenience stores in the vicinity.

The well regarded Landmark Clock was removed by Tedeschi from the building on the Northwest corner of Broadway and Prospect Street Cambridge.

In the unit above the Tedeschi, an elderly lady died from natural causes. The people that took care of her turned off the units heat. A couple of the pipes froze and bursts, flooding the store and another unit. They are cleaning up the mess and I believe renovating it. Hopefully it opens soon.

Of all the possible reasons to close a store: Old Lady.

That Tedeschi store was renovated a few years ago from when it used to be Store 24. They never bothered putting in the bike racks they are supposedly required to have per Cambridge zoning ordinances. The city didn't care either. So instead you can just go two blocks up to the nicer 7-11 which does have a bike rack.

Last I checked, Andrew Square was in South Boston, lol. Cambridge ordinances would not apply.

I'm sure you noted you're replying to the comment referencing the Tedeschi in Cambridge at the intersection of Prospect & Broadway. Then again, maybe not.

According to public records, the parcel wasn't sold at any point recently. I was also wondering this. There are two convenience stores within a 1 minute walk, one being literally across the street, so I'm not sure how they all stayed in business anyway.

The store is closed due to a partial roof collapse. Don't know when it is going to re-open.

My understanding is pipes burst in one of the attached apartments during the deep freeze a couple weeks ago flooding the apartment and the adjacent stores on the first floor. Either the damage was extensive or they are taking the opportunity to renovate a bit beyond just basic repairs and cleanup.

If I were to make an educated guess, I'd say they they want to tear it down for space for MORE condos
