Only one day before the April 30, 2013 Democratic Senate Primary for United States Senate, WBUR is reporting that Congressman Steven Lynch has canceled all but one campaign event due to an unspecified illness. Lynch's sole campaign event that will still take place will be his rally tonight at the Local 7 Iron Workers Hall at 7PM.

Hassan Williams of Roxbury, a one-time Democrat who now considers himself a Republican, has filed papers with the state for a campaign committee to run for mayor this fall.

Williams ran as a Democrat against state Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz in the 2010 primary.

John Barros, who has served on the School Committee for three years, will announce his candidacy for mayor tomorrow morning at the Haley House in Roxbury.

Barros is also executive director of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative.

Aziz Ansari is doing a benefit for bombing victims at the Wilbur Theatre this Sunday. Tickets went on sale at noon today. And, of course, resellers are already trying to make a buck off tickets. At 12:54, the Wilbur warned:

PLEASE DO NOT BUY BROKERED TICKETS FOR THE AZIZ SHOW!
People trying to profiting off of this special benefit show are disgusting.

We are taking action as we speak.

Marathon Sports on Boylston Street

Stephanie Giunta captured the crowd outside Marathon Sports at lunchtime, around the time a concert was going on inside the BPL in Copley Square.

To try to lure more people back, Mayor Menino announced this afternoon that meters will be free between Arlington Street and Mass. Ave. and adjacent to the Public Garden now through Sunday.

Johnson discusses the Marathon and her decision to resign.

Boston School Superintendent Carol Johnson announced today she will leave at the end of the school year, due in large part to her husband's death last month:

This has been a difficult decision, but as you aware, the loss of my husband and best friend Matthew last month has been life-altering for me and my entire family.

Johnson has served for six years:

We have improved our high school graduation rates and MCAS performance; we have brought hundreds of students back who had dropped out of school, and are closing achievement gaps. We have expanded academic support for our English Language Learners and students with disabilities, and we have increased the number of quality school choices through our turnaround, in-district charter and innovation schools.

BPS reports greater vigilance at middle schools today due to a "vague threat" on Twitter against both an unnamed middle school and "a television personality in New York City." Both School and Boston police are patrolling local middle schools, just in case.

Leave it to the Boston Herald to use the recent tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombing for politics, the politics of transitional assistance also known as welfare. Say what? What does domestic terrorism and welfare have to do with each other?
