Count me. Then count me again.

So yesterday I got another census form. Being I sent mine in a while back I had planned to send it to the shredder. Turns out a friend got a second form as well and called the census office - who told him he should fill in the form again. Now that's annoying.

Anyone else getting more than one form? What are your plans for the extra forms?

One form is for the federal gov't, one for the state.

Each city and town conducts an annual census. The state doesn't run a census anymore (they used to, in years ending with 5, until 1985).

City and town census forms look completely different from US census forms. You should fill out both.

I received a census from the city of Brookline and 2 from the federal government.

The letter with the form says, I believe "If you have filled this out, you don't need to fill it out again."

Often times if you have two taxpayers at the same address, you get two forms. Both of them (at least mine) went to the same address.

Also, people generally are stupid and throw away the first form. Then again, not all of us can spend our lives blogging about utter nonsense.

After reading your comment I cracked it open, and it does indeed say they sent me one already, and if I did it before I don't need to do it again. Guess they're doing their part to support the post office. :)

I didn't fill it out though. I already filled out the first one...

When I asked my parents if they filled out their Census form, they said they managed to lose it. So it's good if they're sending out replacements!

called the hotline and eventually got "what if I get a second form?" The answer (paraphrased) was " your original form may have been lost in the mail, mis-delivered, or arrived too late for the initial counting. Please fill out the second form and return it immediately. Do not worry, you will not be "counted twice".

I got a second one. I didn't even read it, I just threw it away. Should I have read it?

I sent the first form back the day I got it. I got a second. And now I have received a third. They are all the same identitical federal census forms. I have heard many people saying that they have had the same thing happening.

Here in the Peoples Republic of Cambridge, we fill in the first form accurately, and then use the second form to claim membership in other racial groups that might otherwise have been undercounted. Also, if you're biracial (or more), you can combine multiple census forms to create a more accurate "blend" of categories for yourself.

I assumed the Census wanted to know your cultural heritage, so I picked "white". Nice and simple. Much easier than trying to figure out how to represent myself by origins, as I'd certainly not pass any one or even twenty-drop test anytime soon.

White, and Other, filling in the blank with "Jewish".

I got a second federal form as well and threw it out. I completed my first one 3 weeks ago and if the government didn't keep track of it that's not my fault. Way to waste a bunch of paper though!
