Presidential campaign gets ugly quick

For president of the Fenway Garden Society, that is.

Mike Mennonno, running for the volunteer position, posts a copy of the e-mail his opponent sent out to members, which darkly warns the society will be destroyed and the Fenway Victory Gardens overrun by out-of-town gay thugs taking advantage of the free needles and condoms he charges Mennonno wants to distribute in the gardens:

The whole problem comes from out of town and can be handled in short order. with a shift in administrations the forces that will set a course to harm or destroy us will be in your hands.

For his part, Mennonno basically goes "WTF?" since he's running on a campaign of improving fundraising and community outreach and says he's never proposed condom/needle handouts. Further thoughts from Mennonno.

Wow. I know nothing about this campaign or the issues, but just based on this St. Jean's guy writing skills (lack of) and grammar I would never vote for him.

Mennonno is out of his mind if he thinks handing out free party favors is somehow going to improve things around the Victory Gardens. The criminal (which are actually the larger of the two problems nowdays) and seedy elements, which are already flocking there because of a known tolerance of lawlessness in that area, are only going to come in greater numbers with the additional amenities provided.

For piss sake a gang infested neighborhood doesn't provide spray paint, ounce sized bags, bullets to gang members hoping that somehow the problems are going to get better!

Sorry if unclear. Mennonno is NOT proposing handing out condoms and needles. It's a stupid accusation by his opponent.

Adam you should change the story to make clear that it accusation and not an official position of Mennonno. Skimmed his blog response itt is hard to tell if Mennonno, running with a public health theme, was in favor of distributing said materials, or if he isn't and pissed that his opponents are already slinging horse manure.

Changed the post to clarify that; sorry if the initial post was unclear.

Good Job, and Good luck to MM. Sad to see politics even at that level is reduced to scare tactics. Nice to see the high road taken.
