'Serious problems' cited at Mass. General

Why have accreditation through JCAHO if the government is going to send its own group of "Medicare inspectors" around?

Mass General is at or above on every category compared between organizations.

I love MGH's intent and the world-class doctors that have done wonders for my family, but my grandmother's stay was anything less than pleasant. They labeled her as "mentally insane/unstable" after she made MULTIPLE reports of mice running around the hospital and her room. During that time, MGH was renovating the floor she was on and the renovation had disturbed mice that were living in the walls. Multiple patients called/screamed to staff about this and in order to keep it from going to the papers, they claimed that my grandmother was hallucinating and was mentally insane. It unfortunately never got to the papers, but I really wish it had. The fact that MGH would support a cover-up is appalling, let alone that they would continue patient care in unsanitary conditions like that.

This was in ~2005 and it's now 2010, so I assume the problem was remedied, but it has unfortunately scarred my image of MGH.
