Death on Georges Bank

Capt. Joe Marcantonio publicly discusses for the first time the events of Aug. 5, 2001, when an oil tanker sliced through his fishing boat and took the lives of his three crewmen, in a post on Good Morning Gloucester:

Finally fading off to sleep I hoped for better dreams. Startled by a yell I jumped up and dashed for the door. Up three steps I turned to the left "what's the matter" I said. Jim was standing up in front of the wheelhouse chair, a counter full of electronics blocked his lower body but I could see his arm stretched forward pointing a little to the port. "What the f#$K, what the f#$k" he was screaming. I was across the pilothouse at the top of the stairs to my room on the port side of the boat. Holding onto the pipe rail, facing the stern I turned forward to see what was putting that horrifying look of panic on Jim's face. My memory of the next three seconds is like that of a subliminal message hid in just a few frames of a film.
