How has Boston survived for so long without burger places with two drive-through lanes?

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Checkers, a take-out-only burger place that lets drivers order on either side of the building, is eying Boston for expansion.

Ed. note: The rebuild Hyde Park McDonald's has two drive-through lanes, but they're both on the same side of the building.

McDonalds Mass Ave (24 hour) also has a double drive-thru (same side), but the people that work there are morons and can't figure out how to efficiently manage a double drive-thru. It only works if you know how to run it. I've waited in those lines for over 30 minutes before. It's horrible.

This is kinda great news. Down in Jersey, Checkers would open up in heavily minority markets like Paterson, Newark and Camden when other chains would take a pass. More impressive, all its locations are open late night. Its burgers aren't terrible -- at least as far as drive-thru, freeze-dried, minimal effort fast food is concerned -- but its two-sided drive-thru is great for summer rollin'. I loved this place when I worked in Paterson, and I wish it well here. I'm hoping it opens somewhere on Washington Street, but Blue Hill Avenue could benefit from something positive like this as well.

Big ups to Checkers. They were Five Guys before the suburbs knew what Five Guys was.
