Police arrest downtown entrepreneur because that was not his lot in life

Boston Police report arresting a man on charges he was running an ad-hoc after-hours parking service in somebody else's Downtown Crossing lot.

Collins Mukasa, 25, was arrested shortly after midnight on charges of trespassing and larceny by scheme after employees of a parking lot at 24 West St. called to complain somebody was using their closed lot to park cars, police say. Officers counted 17 cars in the lot:

When officers questioned the suspect about his decision to utilize a parking lot that didn't belong to him, the suspect stated that everything was cool because all the cars belonged to his friends and he wasn’t charging anyone any money to park them. The suspect then produced several sets of keys which coincided with the parked cars.

While officers were questioning the suspect, the owners of two different motor vehicles showed up on the scene to retrieve their cars. When asked if they paid to park their cars in the lot, both owners stated that they each paid ten dollars to the man who took their keys. When asked if the man who took their keys was a friend, both victims looked at the suspect and stated that they had never met him before.

Innocent, etc.

Who's supposed to be able to use that lot after hours? If it serves no purpose except to get people towed, then the owners are doing a disservice to the community.
