Terrifying. I got stuck on 128 earlier this week because a Ford Ranger blew up. I didn't hear about whether or not the driver made it out ok

Looks like a New Ford escape or Ford Explorer , them fords have a history of exploding if hit.. that's why I keep away from them...and do feel sorry for those who drive them..

Indeed, it was an Escape (and fortunate that the driver managed to do so). The 2013 Escape had at least seven recalls, including a couple for - yes - engine fires. From Edmunds:

"The affected vehicles may experience localized overheating of the engine cylinder head which may cause cracks that could allow oil to leak," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Leaking engine oil may come into contact with a hot engine surface potentially resulting in an engine compartment fire."

Despite all of this, the Escape is a huge seller. It just had its best August ever.
