Years earlier, Adam's Unabomber coverage
That jamoke with a catchy nickname which I could really do without sent out another package.
(Seriously, though, I'm curious, why the decision not to use the nickname this time around?)
Why is he a jerk?
Does he display bad manners while robbing the bank?
I mean, he is a crook, to be sure, but other than that what do we know about his personality?
Now, "bozo with the hat." That has some background to it, but I cannot say I've read that he is any more a jerk than any other bank robber. He's probably short with the teller, but other than that, and of course the whole bank robbery thing, what has he done?
Why he's a jerk
He's annoying lots of people (i.e., bank tellers and presumably customers who can't get into their banks while the investigations are going on). And I'm sick of his stupid hat and the stupid name the FBI's given him.
OK, maybe not the best of reasons to call him a jerk. But I'm a member of the Society of the Easily Annoyed. Maybe I need some hot chocolate.

i imagine being robbed in a bank is a little more traumatic than someone just being short with you.
Don't get me wrong
I'm not calling him a saint. I just don't see why he's any more a jerk than any other bank robber. To me, it's like calling someone a jerk for hitting on you at a nightclub, versus doin the same while you are commuting, while reading, with headphones on. The former situation, there's an expectation, but not in the latter.
Now a friendly or courteous bank robber, that's noteworthy.
Oh, and my sister was a teller in a bank that was robbed. Scared the shit out of her, even though he robbed a different teller.
Jerk.
It's ok to refer to bank robbers in derogatory terms. Jeeeeeeez.
Jerk. Class hero. Maybe
Jerk. Class hero. Maybe both?
