Seven-alarm fire destroys Roxbury building
By adamg on Mon, 03/03/2014 - 5:41am
An early morning fire in a vacant two-family home at 132 Warren St. in Roxbury sent two firefighters to the hospital and forced the evacuation of residents of a neighboring home, the Boston Fire Department reports.
Arson investigators are on the scene of the fire, reported at 4:15 a.m. in the two and a half story building, which was undergoing renovation. The department estimates damage at $1 million.

So that's why there's a chopper overhead. I don't know how I missed all the noise. Thank goodness it was vacant.

Ah, is it that house on the corner that had been boarded up for .....ever?

Street is still blocked from Walnut going toward Dudley Station. The other side is open. All buses being re-routed via Washington St.

Warren not Walnut
Warren St. was blocked
Warren St. was blocked starting from Walnut. Sorry, I thought that was implied since the fire was on Warren.
I live almost across the street, and this didn't wake me up
There was one of those news trucks, the ones with the telescoping dish thingy, idling in front of my house. That woke me up, but not until 6:30am. I tried catching some video, and my hand almost fell off it was so cold. No idea how the firemen don't get frostbite.
Too bad!
I was really hoping someone would do right by this house. It had been vacant for at least a decade & had good bones. The renovation project was taking forever, though, & I'm not surprised it didn't work out.
What a job for the firefighters! I hope they recover soon.

This makes me sad.
I've biked by this house every day to and from work for 5 years since I moved down the street from the South End to Roxbury. There was a flourish of renovation activity a year or two ago (new siding added, lots of new windows put in, fixing the front porch). I haven't seen anyone working on it too much recently, but I've always thought it was a really cool mansard style house and was glad that it was being saved (I've always liked the stone house right next to it too, which you can see in Adam's streetview link). It was quite the mess down there this morning.
This is horrible!
Was the cause of the fire established? Here's hoping that the firemen have a full speedy recovery, and that this house can be rebuilt (though I doubt that it can), and that everybody else in the vicinity of the fire is okay, also.
No cause yet
Or, at least, not announced by BFD yet.
Um, Miki?
When a house burns completely to the ground, it wouldn't be rebuilding it. It would be building a different house.
One month later
And the massive pile of rubble and debris remains, with no visible signs of activity. Why has this not been cleaned up?
Make that 3 months later
And still NO CLEANUP HAPPENING. It looks like a frigging war zone. Filed complaints with CC, they referred to ISD. And still nothing...
