Atlantic Avenue - Circa 1900
They took a lot of pictures when putting up the Atlantic Avenue Elevated. The background looks like Long Wharf / T Wharf, that would place this about India Street or Milk Street.
Just a guess.

The building to the left is the "T Wharf" building and B.S. Snow is listed in an 1885 merchants directory as a Fish Wholesaler at 172, 174 and 176 Atlantic Ave near the current Christopher Columbus Park. Pre-elevated so I'd say turn-of-the century.

Looks like there are some tall masts off to the right in the photo, so I would say this is Atlantic Ave. circa 1910.

Agreed that it's before Atlantic Avenue Elevated. Here's the next block down in 1900 (including the JA Stubbs building at the left of the BCA pic):

Judging from the piles of cobbles in the foregrounds of both photos these would seem to be from the same series. Tall utility poles to clear the forthcoming elevated railway perhaps?

The rail track in the foreground would then be the line that served the waterfront which ran more or less from North Station to South Station.
