Look at the number of words the piece spends on messages from each side. Two vague sentences about the strikers' position, then the rest of the piece is a barrage of paragraphs and quotes from the employer's PR department.
From what I heard when the Brigham and Women's nurses were talking about strike, the NICU nurses there are the ones that pretty much broke the hospitals back. Wondering if the lack of a NICU is one of the reasons that the hospital things they can let this go on?
There is a NICU, its the Floating. First hand experience with it, had a child in there for three months. And those nurses deserve everything that the nurses in other Boston hospitals are receiving.
When the Brigham NICU nurses threatened to be a part of the strike, I heard the hospital there simply could not find a way to replace them and this was one of the main reasons they settled.
I know the Brigham has one of the largest NICUs in New England, so maybe that is why.
One problem may be that Tufts is in a rather precarious financial position. If even BMC won't merge with them who's left as a dance partner? This city cannot support this many hospitals, not with the 900 pound Partners gorilla nearby.
The strike is now a lockout. Until Monday. Everybody knew this was going to happen, because the scabs they hired as replacements have a four day minimum, and it lets Tufts management indulge in a petty punitive action just to show who's boss.
Tufts nurses make $45/hr which is a good salary for a college grad from many of the RN degree mills. This is also more than many primary care physicians who work a lot harder and train a lot longer.

Boston Herald is the voice of the union worker?

Where's the union support?
Did we read the same article
It was fair and unbiased (Adam take notes). It stated why the RN's walked and why the hospital wouldn't meet their demands.
Then at the bottom it had a considerable amount of Pro-Nurse tweets, so if anything this article was more of a voice for the nurses than Tufts.
No, I think we did not read the same article
It's currently a very different article than I read this morning.
Nurses are tough, but not rough
These nurses deserve
These nurses deserve everything they are asking for and more!!!
Contract Details?
What are the nurses getting now for pay and benefits and what more are they looking to get?
Is pay based on tenure? performance? experience? education?
Are pay increases based on merit? Can the hospital quickly fire low performing nurses?
Needs some details before I choose a side.
No NICU at Tufts I believe.
