Everett man charged with murder on Gove Street in East Boston

Boston Police report arresting an Everett man on charges he fatally stabbed Wilfredo Landaverde Arevalo of Medford at 186 Gove St. in East Boston around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 15.

Police say officers arrested Edwin Mendez Hernandez, 20, at 20 Hancock St. in Everett around 8 this morning.

Arevalo's family described him as somebody who came to the US from his native El Salvador and put down roots here:

Wilfredo was charming and such a loving young man. His love for soccer was unmatched, taught by his grandfather, who he looked up to, he played soccer all his life winning great achievements. He was a very intelligent man, as he studied both Spanish and English he set off to become an American citizen and gained so much knowledge along the way. We are all very proud of his accomplishments. He had so much love for his family and was our protector. He took pride in the father he wanted to become as he found out he would be expecting a baby girl. He was a beautiful soul who was loved and admired by everyone. He would always brighten up the room with his presence.
