Motorist slams into bus in Kenmore Square, runs away, police say

Transit Police report that at 5:30 this morning, somebody in a Honda SUV drove into the back of an MBTA bus outside Kenmore station. The driver then ran away, police say, adding what was left of his or her SUV was towed away. The bus was driven away.

I've heard that if you're drunk/high and you run away, the worst you get is leaving the scene rather than picking up a DUI.

Then again, DUIs don't seem to carry much of a penalty around here either.

Motorism kills 30,000 people a year in this country. Of all the -isms, motorism is a lot deadlier than terrorism, but you would never know it from the media coverage.

You know, there's one pronoun you can use when someone's gender is unknown, which would include an alleged bus-hitter of any gender, and would take up a lot less space than the clunky binary-only phrasing you used.
