Get your ruby slippers ready again

The National Weather Service has issued another tornado watch for greater Boston, until 8 p.m. today:

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds.

A tornado watch means weather conditions are right for possible formation of a twister. A tornado warning means one's been detected on radar and you better take your striped socks off so a house doesn't fall on you.

State Dem Convention results put two on Treasurer ballot and three on Auditor

The results from the state Democratic Convention being held today in Worcester are in, according to Boston.com and twitter feeds (hash tag: #madem10).

As expected, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor received enough votes to put them on the ballot (at least 15 percent) and receive the endorsement of the party (25 percent).

In the race for State Treasurer, Steve Grossman earned their endorsement by receiving more than 50 percent of the delegates' votes while Boston City Councilor-At-Large Steve Murphy made it to September's ballot with 15.6 percent of the votes.

The state auditor race is considered a hot one after Joe DeNucci announced his decision to retire (after ten years). Suzanne Bump, Guy Glodis, and Michael Lake all made it on the ballot. The rumor in the twittershere is that Glodis instructed some of his supporters to vote for Lake, thereby assuring his place on the ballot and potentially splitting the "progressive" vote between him and Bump, in September.

Fowl deeds: Evil swans attack innocent little ducklings at Public Garden lagoon

Romeo and Juliet? This year's swans are more like dual Lady Macbeths. Mike the Mad Biologist chronicles the avian war on the lagoon:

... One day I saw one swan prevent the flock of ducklings from entering the pond: wherever the ducks went to try to jump in, the swan was right there hissing at them. That day, the swan even jumped out of the water and pursued them on land.

It gets even more vicious. The swan (again, no idea which one) will try to isolate a couple ducklings and then pursue those ducklings. The duck's mother then tries the 'broken wing' gambit (squawking loudly and then veering off, in an attempt to draw the swan away). It never works. These swans are on a mission.
