Somebody doesn't like the inscriptions on the Good Will Hunting bench in Boston's Public Garden

So the Parks Department replaced a bunch of benches in the Public Garden this summer and now a concerned citizen is kvetching about Robin Williams fans marking up the replacement for the bench he and Matt Damon made famous:

PUBLIC GARDEN BENCH-new ugly graffiti from Robin Williams fans on this beautiful new bench! Please remove before more is added! The new bench is so nice!

New barriers protect bicycle lane on Massachusetts Avenue in the Back Bay

City installed flexible barriers this morning. Photo by Greg Hum.

The Globe introduces us to Jonathan Fertig, who spent $40 buying potted plants and traffic cones to protect the new bike lane on Mass. Ave. at Beacon, in an example of "tactical urbanism." He's now raised more than $2,200 to add more barriers (meanwhile, the city, good to its word, installed its own mini barriers today).

Greg Hum shows us the difference: Read more.

Truck almost slams into Bridge on Storrow Drive

Jared Dobson can only utter a hearty "Tis the season!" as he waits to get by a moving van with a driver alert enough to stop before slamming into a Storrow footbridge shortly before 6:30 p.m., if not alert enough to pay attention to any of the "CARS ONLY" signs earlier on his journey. Read more.

The Boston Business Journal reports on renovations to Copley Place, one of two 1980's Boston malls designed to let suburbanites experience a taste of life in the city without actually having to interact with it (the other being the failed Lafayette Place downtown). The work is part of an overall mall upgrade that includes "upgraded escalators and glass handrails" and a 52-story residential tower.

Offensive window display in the Back Bay

See it larger (if you have smelling salts handy).

A shocked citizen was shocked to see that the window display for Sweet-N-Nasty on Mass. Ave. in the Back Bay, which specializes in X-rated cakes and chocolates, was filled with the sorts of items one might expect to find in the window of a store that specializes in X-rated cakes and chocolates.

"Totally offensive," was all the outraged citizen could muster before hitting submit on his or her 311 app and, no doubt, swooning to the ground.
