State Police report a Cambridge man heading north in the O'Neill Tunnel lost control of his Jeep Compass, crashed into a wall and died after the Jeep flipped onto the passenger side, shortly after midnight on Saturday.
State Police identify the driver as Robert Smith, 59, and say he was not wearing his seat belt. The crash remains under investigation, State Police say.
MIT News reports on a five-year deal between the MIT Electron-conductive Cement-based Materials Hub and the Aizawa Concrete Corp. to research ways to use concrete in ways you really wouldn't think it could be: To replace lithium batteries to store energy created by wind and solar power and to create systems that could de-ice frozen roads and sidewalks. The Cambridge Fire Department reports a man was extricated from under the first car of an inbound Red Line train Wednesday night.
Firefighters arrived shortly before 11 p.m. and guided the man - who remained conscious - out from under the train around 15 minutes later, after getting confirmation that the power to the third rail had been shut. He was treated at the scene for some injuries, then transported to a local hospital.
Cambridge Police today released their most detailed update yet on how a CPD officer's gun came to discharge in a restroom at Cambridge Rindge and Latin.
