Geeky Mama, in the middle of that pre-lottery school hunt unique to Boston parents, is impressed by the Curley School in Jamaica Plain.

any school could be the Curley School
If I had a little kid I would do this: just hook up with ten families from preschool, pick some school and all of you request it. If you concentrate your efforts on one school, you will have a solid class of kids.
Everybody wants into the Curley school now but there's nothing special about it. It just got picked by a bunch of achiever parents and the principal was open to giving over some control and credit to them.
Shh ...
That hey, let's all gang up on one school technique has been practiced from time to time, at least in the West Zone.
You think you invented that?
No, really, that is the way it happens.
The trick is either being in that first wave or figuring out the schools this happened to before everybody puts them first in the lottery.
Ayup
The kidlet basically got into her school the year before it got really hot, which is good because we're not in the walk zone for it, so our odds would basically be nil.
better to have a good class than good school
If you have 5-10 kids in the class who could get into advanced work, they don't need to go to advanced work, they will carry the other kids and raise the bar for the whole class.
The school will teach/not teach the kids either way. You have to teach them a fair amount yourself anyway.
