Preppy perv sought for pulling teen's top down on Red Line train
By adamg on Wed, 07/07/2010 - 3:32pm
MBTA Transit Police say they are looking for a clean-cut 20-something white guy for an incident shortly after midnight on an outbound Red Line train about to pull out of Kendall Square.
According to police, just before the doors closed, the man walked over to a 16-year-old sitting with her friend and pulled her top down, exposing one of her breasts. He then ran out of the train.
The perp is described as being between 22 and 28, about 6'3", clean shaven with blond hair in a buzz cut. He was wearing khaki pants and a white polo shirt. If you see anybody like that on the Red Line, contact Transit Police at 617-222-1212.

So...
...every other guy on the T?
so
Almost every person in this town. Or at least it seems that way.
security video of the perp
Fox25 aired a fairly decent T security video of him... hopefully someone will recognize this asswipe.
Ummm, it is so not right what the guy did...but
what is a 16 year old doing out in Cambridge and/or Boston at midnight!?!
You're right...
It's obvious, the 16 year old girl's clearly at fault...
Hint: I'm being sarcastic, Jackass.
Umm, I don't think he was
Umm, I don't think he was blaming her. It is possible to have a discussion of safety practices without saying that somebody who doesn't follow them is at fault for an attack. However, I don't think it's necessarily inappropriate for a 16 year old to be on the 'T at midnight.
Why?
What happens at midnight that doesn't happen the other hours the T is open?
So much safer to be packed into a speeding car full of teens, sure.
Right?
A 16-year old female should never be out at midnight without a male escort EVER. Where the (expletive) is this girl's father?
As for the guy who actually broke the law, nobody chased him?
That gives me an idea
Male escort? Hmmm ... maybe this will be a way for my sons to pay for college.
A woman is more likely to be
A woman is more likely to be assaulted, raped, or otherwise a victim of violent crime from an acquaintance than by a stranger, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. And why do you say that she should have specifically been with a male escort?
You're new around here, aren't you?
Will the Tulip hates women, people of color, poor people, immigrants, people with more than a high school education...did I miss anyone?
What you say is very true, anon, but,
there are instances where women do get raped, or assaulted by strangers.
For starters, I had friends back in college who were raped by total strangers while walking home at night.
Also, does the Nancy Ziegenmeyer case come to mind for anybody?
Youre an idiot
Youre (Stillthinkingaboutit) an idiot.
YOU ARE
YOU'RE.
Good DAY sir
*giggle*
:o)
Why?
Because I think it a bit unusual for a 16 year old girl to be out at midnight? Ok. Let us say it is not unusual but not necessary something I would let my daughter do without an adult present. If that makes me a "jackass" and an "idiot", then so be it.
And, for the record, I am not blaming her (if you read the first part of my post). It is amazing to me how many people feel free to insult others behind a screen. I am tempted to throw one your way "J" and another at "East Cambridge" but I feel like taking the higher ground tonight.
My bet
$10 says his buddy stayed on the train with the hidden cameraphone rolling.
just saw the cctv video...
no one on the platform or at the gates, and him grinning like an idiot as he ran out of the station. Kaz, I think you called this one perfectly. It'll show up on some asshole's myspace page right quick.
Round up the usual suspects
I.E., every Northeastern, B.U. and B.C. fratboy douchebag.
MIT?
He did get off at Kendall.
Use of 'Perv'
This incident was, no doubt, terrifying to the young woman and would be terrifying to nearly any female. I want to point out that the use of 'perv' in the headline seems to make light of the situation. And I know, Adam, that this is not your intent.
This casual use of phrases
This casual use of phrases that describe victimizing acts is becoming more and more prevalent, and tends to desensitize the audience. I refer also to the casual use of the word rape, and "rapey" and also the use of the word porn , now commonly used to describe any visual media that excites people.
My 16 year old daughter? Would not be riding the T at midnight without an adult-at least with my knowledge. But, the thing about 16 year old girls is that they a) think they are magically 24 and b) don't always tell their parents every little thing. The top in question is probably a tube top, again which my 16 year old daughter wold not be allowed out of the house wearing. See "but..." above.
Phew
I was beginning to wonder when the preachy types would weigh in. On a related note, "rapey" is now a separate term? Talk about the casual of use of certain words-- Pot, meet kettle; kettle, pot. This was a sexual assault, yes, but not a rape.
Poster referred to casual use
Poster referred to casual use of the word per, AND other terms used to talk about victimizing acts.
i honestly keep trying to form a sentance in my head...
... where i would use the word "rapey". they all sound stupid.
but even if i could construct a sentance, i don't think it would be on par with calling somebody who committed a perverted act a "perv". perv is just normal shorthand, and imho, not being too cutesy and not distorting the committed crime.
so the poster gets points, in my book, for trying to be sensitive to people who have been sexually victimized, but loses a lot of point for getting the word "rapey" stuck in my head.
