Near Porter Square, we still have Hollywood Express. At its high point, this was a 4-store local chain with outposts in Central Square, Davis Square, and Twin City Plaza. Now it's back to just its original storefront, but it soldiers on.
All of the once-mighty big national chains -- Blockbuster, Palmer Video, West Coast Video, Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video (not the same as Hollywood Express) -- are now gone from our metropolitan area. So is the homegrown Videosmith chain (once a sibling to Brookline Booksmith, Cybersmith, WGBH Learningsmith, Soundsmith, etc)
