Meter maids shot at early Tuesday in Dorchester

WHDH reports two parking-enforcement officers writing street-cleaning tickets found themselves under attack when somebody shot at their van - leaving one with an eye injury from broken glass.
City records show the incident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Washington Street between Columbia Road and Blue Hill Avenue.

What were meter maids doing out at 12:45am, unless some parts of the city have overnight enforcement.

Doesn't the parking ban begin at midnight as the sweepers go overnight? I know I've seen them out and about in the wee hours of the morning.
