Buy beer, get gas
By adamg on Wed, 02/04/2015 - 1:06pm
The owner of a Hyde Park gas station is seeking permission to add beer and wine to his offerings.
Elias Akiki, owner of the eponymous gas station at 1171 Hyde Park Ave., goes before the Boston Licensing Board next week seeking a beer-and-wine license to sell beer and wine out of a cooler, at least up until 10 p.m.
In addition to gas, the station already offers a one-bay self-service car wash.

In a more perfect world this would be no issue
In Virginia and many other states, beer and wine are available at every corner store. Last I checked the world hasn't ended in any of these states.
It'll never happen until MA starts being less protectionist.
How dare you suggest those
How dare you suggest those mouth breathers in so called 'flyover states' with their beer and wine available at every corner store are more civilized than us!
This is common in California
but I've never seen it here in Massachusetts. Do you know of any other gas stations that sell beer or wine?
There are a few on the South
There are a few on the South Shore.
At one time , on the X-Way
At one time , on the X-Way Boston Street exit , there was a HoJo ( now a Holiday Inn ) , and beside it was a Shell gas station that had a liquor license. you could slide off the X-Way , pull in , get your stuff , get right back on the X-Way.. Also , on Hyde Park age , right before the Star Market ( now a Shaw's ) there was a Texaco gas station that had a license too. Today , in Plymouth there is a Mobil that has a license , and I recall one or two up in Haverhill and maybe Salisbury at the NH border.
For easy liquor store access
it's hard to beat the Everett Turnpike north of the Hooksett toll plaza. Right next door to the "NH Safety Rest Area" is the "NH State Liquor Store". Always loved the irony of that.
This would be awesome!
I grew up mostly in VA and was amazed when I went to my first gas station in CT the night before a job interview that I couldn't buy beer there. Same the first time I came to MA.
You can in NH and I think VT though!
New York too
You can buy beer at gas stations and supermarkets in NY, but not wine or liquor. Those are sold in special booze-only stores.
In Vermont, gas stations can sell full out liquor. And gas station sandwiches are a local delicacy up there. Strange, but tasty.
In Louisiana, I bought large
In Louisiana, I bought large-cup cocktails at drive-in shops. Great state.
restaurant tailgating
Years ago, we went to Joe's Dreyfus Store restaurant in Livonia, LA, which sadly closed a few years ago, but while waiting outside for a table, people were sitting on the back of their pick-ups with tubs of beer while waiting to get in. Talk about a culture shock.
