Police: JP residents followed armed robbers until one of them opened fire

This replaces an earlier post on the robbery that had an incorrect location for the crime.

Boston Police report arresting one of two men they say entered a Hyde Park Avenue residence shortly before 8 p.m. yesterday, forced the residents to the floor and then stole watches, phones and several hundred dollars in cash before running out.

Police say the residents got up and ran out of their 280 Hyde Park Ave. home and "gave chase until they were fired upon by the suspects." None of the residents was hit.

Police say officers quickly found a guy matching the residents' description nearby:

While performing the stop, officers observed the victims’ stolen property in a snowbank nearby, as well as a number of plastic bags containing illegal narcotics, including substances believed to be heroin, cocaine, and oxycodone pills. Ballistic evidence was also recovered a short distance from where shots were fired.

John Rosa, 21, of Dorchester, was charged with armed robbery, armed assault in a dwelling, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, trafficking heroin, possession of cocaine and oxycodone with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say, adding he was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute for the "green leafy substance" officers found on him during booking.

Innocent, etc.

If Archdale is Roslindale, isn't this as well?

Isn't Walk Hill the border or has JP Creep started a la the way areas south of Northampton Street have all of a suddenly become the South End in order to justify real estate prices?

I apologize ahead of time for the trauma this might cause for some Roslindale / JP residents, but see if you can find your way through this question before getting hysterical.

The zoning maps for the City of Boston include the area south of Hyde Park Ave. to Neponset Ave. as part of the JP Neighborhood district. Friends who have lived in the Bourne area for years have always considered it JP. It isn't a new thing.

Many from my family lived in an apartment house across from the playground on Hyde Park Ave. (two blocks or so from the robbery site) and they always considered it JP.

... but according to that interactive map, it's Roslindale. Then again, I always considered that I grew up in Dorchester Lower Mills, but that map says it was Mattapan. Fuck it. It's Boston.

Your link shows it as Roslindale.

Is an individual's idea of neighborhoods. Not the City's, for the purposes of zoning.

Now I know for sure I actually DID grow up in Dorchester!

woodbourne used to be part of roslindale, but they voted to protect their property values sometime after the 70s... JP technically continues down the east side of hyde park ave and stops at neponsit, then gerrymanders around to exclude american legion, but include forest hills cemetery. West side of hyde park south of Ukraine is Roslindale for some odd reason... but on washington it starts south of Aldwin (even though that side is Rozzie zip-code). IMHO, the dividing line between JP and Roslindale is the Arborway... but If those snooty people in Woodbourne want to keep pretending they're in JP, then whatever...

runs from the Pond to Forest Hills. There is a lot of JP west of there, to the Brookline line and Allandale Road.

The line for me is Walk Hill on one side of the tracks, Ukraine Way for the other.

However, I gotta respect the zip cde, unless there is evidence of a land grab, a la West Roxbury a few years ago.

First, ZIP codes aren't polygons, so any map that is based on ZIPS is really just an estimation based on the linear data associated with the code. But more importantly, they are a creation of the post office, which didn't necessarily care about, nor follow provincial attitudes about neighborhoods held by the locals. Generally speaking, Rozzie is 02131, and JP is 02130, but that's not a hard and fast rule, and certainly not authoritative.

Roslindale was basically created as a postal district of West Roxbury (as was Jamaica Plain)

This is a debate that has been going on. We all know that the Square/Village is Roslindale, and there are even boundary markers between Roslindale and Hyde Park, but between the parts of the old Town of West Roxbury things were always fluid. The only hard lines are those the USPS gave us.

Of course, when West Roxbury goes all Putin and takes Roslindale's Crimea (the land between Centre Street and the Parkway) what can we do?

And though there's some dispute on this matter, I'd argue that even Forest Hills is Roslindale. There are some maps that bare this out:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Roslindale,+Boston,+MA/@42.279592,-71.12228,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89e37ec836def867:0xde09eb48485d970e

Yeah, I know, Google, but I've seen some other, older ones, just not sure where they are at the moment.

As I said, IMO, since there is nothing definitive on neighborhood boundaries. I'm also fine with Walk Hill as the border.

The dividing line between JP and Roslindale in that neighborhood is Catherine Street. I've canvassed that neighborhood any number of special elections and feel like I know the addresses and zip codes by heart.

Why no attempted murder charge??

Maybe the residents ID'ed the other guy, thus far uncaught, as the one firing at them during the chase?
