Ortiz may or may not be one of the 100 greatest ballplayers.
But let's say, for the sake of argument, that he is. 32 MLB teams, as many as 40 airports nearby (2 in DC, 3 in NYC, etc).
Imagine if every airport you went to had 2-3 of these gates. Sure, a few airports would have none and NY would divide 15 across 3 airports, but you get the gist. And that's just baseball. What about NFL, NBA, NHL?
This is a dumb idea. Adding any amount of confusion to an airport is never a good idea. Stick to naming a bridge on Brookline Ave after him.

While Massport may run Logan, JetBlue oversees the gates from which their planes depart. In a Landlord / Tenant relationship scenario. Take your beef up with JetBlue, they're the ones "naming" the gate. It will remain Gate C34 on the tickets for flights departing from and arriving there.

On your ticket and on the airport maps. The agents or air hosts will just be announcing "Now arriving /departing from the Davis Ortiz/ Big Papi gate 34." If they add in "this is our fucking city" I'd be happy.

Hey, I live in the Actual. Frickin'. City. of. Boston, too, and was subject to the same exact lockdown as you (granted, observed mostly in the breach down here in the nether regions where we all knew we had absolutely nothing to worry about, but, oh, my, goodness, I couldn't get on the Orange Line!). You're going to have to come up with a better reason to hate on Ortiz.
Also, your badge of lockdown honor is a bit tarnished by the fact that Watertown (where the bad guy actually was) and Cambridge (where the bad guy started out and murdered a cop) were also under lockdown. But again, you really need a better shtick.

Enough with all the sports worship crap! Boston is a world-class city for many other things which are far more important and full of world class people which do many other beneficial things worthy of attention!

Because I'd hate to think that you can live here and not recognize all the hero signs for Boston residents who died in support of their country - and all the Boston Police officers who died in the line of duty, the Vendome memorial, etc.
Feel free to argue it's stupid Ortiz gets a gate at the airport, but please don't do it on the backs of Bostonians who most definitely do honor those who helped make this country and city what it is.

If we have to name stuff after sports stars Bill Russell is far more deserving of such an honor for his Civil Rights work. He is a real hero compared to others which did nothing but play a game.

Boston Red Sox organization is a highly respectable ball club , why isn't a Tunnel named after Larry Bird , Why is there a Ted Williams Tunnel? Not a Tony Conigliaro Tunnel, or Babe Ruth Tunnel , Or a Bobby Orr Tunnel, will there be any simbolic structure in Boston reserved for Tom Brady when he retires.

Massport naming a terminal is a whole different kettle of fish than memorializing the Marathon victims. i have no doubt that will be done in the future, and I hope the time is taken to do it respectfully and tastefully.

I give up, how does this work, naming a gate? Do they hang up a jersey in a frame, or will they actually put "David Ortiz" on people's boarding passes and the arrivals/departures monitors?
Logan Gate #1 for black U.S. Sen Ed Brooke (R-MA)
Does Logan give any recognition to U.S. Sen. Ed Brooke (Republican-MA), who earned the Bronze Star in WW II and became the first African-American elected to the U.S. Senate since reconstruction? Perhaps gate #1 for being the first African-American and the courage to be a black Republican in MA. I've been to three Patriots Superbowl wins, a Bruins NHL Stanley Cup playoff game, the Red Sox World Series win at Fenway and some Celtics finals but none of the star athletes deserve bridges, roads and airport terminals named after them, save for Ted Williams who excelled at baseball but left to heroically serve in WW II. The profane Ortiz, unable to play the field and suspected of performance enhancing drugs, has gotten more than enough recognition.

Sen. Ed Brooke has a lot more in common with today's Democrats then the current batch of Republicans. He seems to have been in favor of most of the things you're opposed to and vice-versa.
Do you simply think anyone with the (R) around their name is good and anyone with a (D) is bad? You'd be surprised to find history (and present times) isn't so clear-cut.

If he were alive, you could tell that to Democrat Paul Tsongas who evidently thought African-American Sen. Brooke too conservative, ran against him and defeated him. That would be called divisive and racially insensitive today if the political parties were reversed. I would agree that the Edward Brooke Courthouse is a fitting honor but David Ortiz, who did little but entertain and complain, has a prominent bridge named after him. If we are going to start naming gates at Logan, a local African-American winner of the Bronze Star, Attorney General and U.S. Senator might be a better start.

I've used gate 34 many times. It's an area with seats, that has a door, that leads to a walkway, that gets you on a jet.
Other than the number 34 it's the same as all the other gates.
Ortiz doesn't need to be one of the top 10 baseball players in history or even in Red Sox history to be worthy of this small honor.
He was loved by Red Sox fans and will be missed. That's it.
