My eyeballs hurt walking into work today from the wind. I didn't think I'd need sunglasses or goggles since there wasn't precipitation but I guessed wrong.

Nothing to do with the weather - just those NWS all caps are killing me.

I was on my way to an interview near the Galleria today. I was walking down Land Blvd and the wind was so bad.. my eyes started watering. And I had sunglasses on.

like the half mask that covers your lower face including nose. You will notice a vast improvement in comfort, including watery eyes.

A "neck gaiter" is the clothing you seek.

A neck gaiter solves the problem; so does a half mask. Yes, they exist. I've used them mostly when skiing and in addition to a neck gaiter.

So I should cancel my plans for tomorrow night?

by last May, NWS Taunton doesn't yet have the capability to speak in a big-boy voice when issuing advisories. Updated timeline for transition:

But I'm not bringing the bike home until tomorrow evening.

The two-wheeled world belonged to the ninjas this morning.

Probably better than waiting for the Dead Line to make its non-rounds, though. I was cosy (ski googles weren't fogging in the wind) and making my own heat and fairly good time considering.

Still,it isn't exactly something that you could just decide to do because the T failed - I was wearing years of City Sports Basement finds snapped up in mid-summer at steep discount, and knew exactly what I needed to wear.

I kept my bike home today (I miss my work out! :( ) specifically because of:
1. The audacity of this wind.
2. The audacity of tomorrow's temperatures to be in the teens and single digits.

I haven't winterized my cold weather wardrobe (or my bike) enough to bike in temps lower than 30F, but I'm working on it! Still need ski goggles and a better outdoor jacket.

Places like WorkNGear and Costco are great for affordable winterwear finds. Costco has wool socks and merino wool base layers at very low prices. WorkNGear has anything you could want to wear outside, so long as you don't mind looking like a construction worker.

If you like frostbite. Hands and feet aren't so "cosy" in this weather.

Mine were just fine in the split finger gloves I bought in Edmonton and my trusty Kamik boots with wooly socks.

People ski in these conditions all the time, and they have gear for doing it in that works. Canadians just live in it half the year.

Exactly. It's not that big of a deal for healthy adults. I find that people who grew up skiing are less apt to complain about the cold than people who didn't grow up skiing.

Up to you, skiing's a bit different than biking - hands and feet are more exposed in biking, and they're not moving, so I don't know that I'd care to try it in these conditions, even with ski gear. Definitely without anything less. I know a guy who was dumb enough to bike to work in sneakers in conditions like this. Next thing I know he was asking me, "What does it mean when your toes turn purple?"

Not by the biking.

A month ago, I thought "you know what I'm going to do on Friday the 16th? Borrow the wife's bike and finally bike the Minuteman Trail". I usually do long runs on Fridays I have off, but since I'm not even planning on pretending to be in training, it seemed to be the best time.

Now, the plan is to visit the Burlington Mall, thereby driving under the trail. Someday I'll do it. I've run from Bedford to Arlington Heights, but I want to bike the whole thing.
