Citizen complaint of the day: The chirp in the night that never ends
By adamg on Sat, 07/01/2017 - 7:45pm
A fed-up citizen files a complaint about some chirping that's been going on since Tuesday - and not by a mockingbird - from a residence on Comm. Ave. between Clarendon and Berkeley:
Every 20 seconds loud chirp from upper front facing unit. Can be heard throughout Commonwealth mall. Keeping everyone and pets up since Tuesday!! Please help!!

Chirp
I know that chirp. A few years ago there was on in my neighborhood and could hear it only night while walking the dog. I'm thinking an alarm system?
I dunno.
Most 'low battery' fire alarm indicators aren't too loud. This is a purposeful design element. If the battery's low, it conserves energy by being just loud enough to be annoying.
Change the battery every year in October, during Fire Prevention Week.
Actually, the recommendation is to change the batteries
every six months at the same time you adjust your clocks in accordance with the arcane and needless practice of "Spring Forward, Fall Back"

The offending device in that case was a sonic pest repeller gizmo.
This might be any number of things - an alarm saying "replace my batteries" , a critter, etc.
I speculate
I speculate that unit needs a battery in the smoke detector, but that could be wrong.
Map in link has the OBVIOUS source
"Chirp of the Covenant" is located nearby.
Case closed.
Or, it's a smoke alarm with a low battery.
Or, a very boring monotone bird.
Nah, it's gotta be Chirp of the Covenant.
Thank you legal weed
I've been to houses with a couple smoke alarms chirping, come back 2,3,4 months later and the thing is still going, people are high as kites the whole time.

Meh
This happened when the lawyer lady in the unit below me was gone on business for a week and the detectors batteries went low.
I just turned the TV up when home and kept a fan running at night in the bedroom as usual. Meh. Stop bitching people, and enjoy life.
NONONO. NO.
If there's a defective smoke alarm system (and a low battery makes it de facto defective) CALL THE LANDLORD RIGHT AWAY. Sorry for the caps, but I am literally shouting.
You do not want to be in a unit above one that has no working smokes.
They will fix the problem. It's a life safety hazard, the do not have to worry about getting sued for an illegal entry.
Yes yes yes
We're not a managed HOA, so I sent her a text and she replaced it once she got home. All our units have several smoke detectors and monoxide detectors, so it wasn't a huge deal.
You presumed because she's a

What does that even mean? Is there supposed to be a stereotype that women have lower rates of home ownership than men?
