Subaru pushed down fence at the Jamaica Plain Whole Foods

Gretchen Van Ness captured the scene at the Jamaica Plain Whole Foods this afternoon, where somebody managed to push down a fence in the parking lot and then a tree planted on Centre Street. No injuries, although a woman who had been on the sidewalk just a few feet away was shaken up.

I never thought to check what that fence is made of, but clearly all the supports sheared at the base, so I guess it must be plastic (or really thin metal). I think some corners were cut here...

Sometimes these things are designed to break the way they do: https://99percentinvisible.org/article/breakaway-hit-street-side-posts-d...

So that is what happened. I saw the fence leaning last night, the tree limbs and the caution tape.
I believe it was a metal fence with the vegetable motifs cutouts along the top rail.

Drunk? Extremely poor driver? Possessed by the Spirit of Fence Haters?

Somehow got confused and hit the gas instead of the brake? This is an extremely tight parking lot, I can't see how you'd just lose control.

... and the traffic flow pattern is not clearly defined. I expect there are a lot of fender benders there. Doesn't explain this, however.

Shoe got stuck between the pedals, and driver panicked?

(Happened to me once, although I handled it well, and no damage done. But I drive barefoot now, just in case.)
