Why it doesn't pay to live in the same condo building as a rich person

# Weeks without heat
# Days without water, with only a few minutes' notice

Losing water or heat for certainly a day is a health code violation. Call ISD, immediately.

Days and nights with 90-degree heat from the malfunctioning new $8,000 boiler the rich new owner downstairs insisted we get, replacing our reliable 30-year-old boiler

Surprise, ALSO A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. Anything over 82 degrees I believe...

Men using the backyard as a bathroom, in plain sight

SURPRISE, indecent exposure and health code violation. Take a picture, call 911 and show the nice police officers who show up.

Broken doorbells for three months, as we wait for the new owner's $20,000 video-intercom system to arrive.

Also a violation of housing code (any building over 4 units has to have an intercom, self-locking door, and electronic strikeplate.)

Also, hire a lawyer.

Document EVERYTHING.

As a general rule, this is an area of business that only knows how to communicate through lawyers. The only other time they'll present a professional face is when they want something from a Zoning Board of Appeals, where their lawyers are also usually present. Without general contractors and home renovations, we'd need far fewer lawyers in this country.

I never had to sue, but I know what happens when neighbors and neighborhoods are 'victims' or perceive themselves to be victims of poor construction, planning and related unprofessional activities. I had a job where I covered Planning Board and Board of Appeals meetings for cable, and I've even seen an entire neighborhood's future put in jeopardy by the bad reputation of the developer of most of its residential properties.

Good luck. You'll need it.

If they're working on the weekends or holidays, call the police to have them shut the site down. Building permits are only valid in Boston between (I think) 7 and 5 and only (I know for a fact) on weekdays. No construction should take place on weekends without a speciial permit (which generally requires neighborhood approval).

Does this person own the condo and pay fees to their own condo association?

If seen cases where condo associations have had its memeber pay one time costs over 75K because of lousy management decisions. That was a large building though.

Id sell as soon as possible if its that bad.

Obviously you are an over-reacting, passive aggressive baby if you are spending 'thousands' because your cat can't crap right. Either that, or your cat is as mentally fragile as you.

Do you live in some sort of triple decker condo, or what we like to call 'the eastie skyscraper' which means you don't really have a condo but more of a piece of a house because you were too poor to afford anything better?

Usually condo associations have bylaws limiting or preventing this, but I'm sure you'd rather just vent and get the sympathy of strangers. Boo hoo hoo, move or shut up.

Stress can affect cats in weird ways. I had a cat who effectively stopped eating after we moved to a new place (while two other people moved out of the new place at the same time.)

All the activity and the unfamiliarity of the place had freaked her out, and losing appetite is a typical sign of stress (for people as well as cats.)

But I'm not sure if "inflammatory bowel syndrome" is another sign. Could be. But I've only ever seen stress mean kitty don't eat no more.

Yes, having people fire into your windows with uzis is much better, as is stepping over crack vials to take the T. I hear you can get a mansion in Dudley Square for less than the price of a Gucci bag. Maybe you should look into that.

Quick, someone call the waaaaaaaaaaaahbulance!

You all have some nerve to criticize and mock the blogger.

I mean, she has a tree allergy.

Please, give her some sympathy!

I think most anyone would find this an annoying, nope, downright disruptive state of affairs, regardless of which neighborhood it happens to occur. Okay, so maybe someone goes a bit overboard protesting the situation (tho in this case, I'd be pretty pissed off too), but the frustration can build over such a long period of time -- and then you just let it out.

I really don't like it when some folks seem to be just waiting to dump on someone, while hiding behind their anon status. This blog has some of the most interesting and spirited commentary about life in Greater Boston that I've encountered in my 14+ years here -- why not join in at a more genuine level?

I had a post about noise from a jackhammer that started earlier than what is usually permitted, and was overwhelmed with hateful comments, not on UH, but on my own blog. One even challenged me to a fight, which is the only one I did not approve for posting. I think ignoring them is the best that one can do. I've see other online forums destroyed by anonymous and even registered users acting like 11 year olds. But you're right, this is the best local site. As for the "11 year olds," in real life they probably have boring jobs and got tired of playing solitaire. I doubt they'd act that way if they couldn't hide behind a screen.

If by "solitaire" you mean "masturbate", you got me pegged right. What, TMI?

It's a bizarre world, the blogosphere. A blog is a person's musings, thoughts, suggestions. Which is great. A blog is also a place for others to comment, to criticize. But, if readers criticize too much, the blogger won't blog. And we all lose out and eventually the Internet is boring.

The level of harshness is unfortunate, but I remember a day not too far gone where I jumped on people left and right. And, yes, it was 11-year old behavior.

It took me some time to realize when my words could contribute to an unnecessary or unpleasant online flareup. But I've never engaged in the kind of anonymous trashing that really detracts from what a forum like this can provide.

I lurked around this blog for many months before deciding to start posting and commenting. I did so after seeing that most people here participate with a healthy sense of give and take, and a nice mix of earnestness and good humor.
