Police: Kid caught trying to smuggle gun into Dorchester High
By adamg on Sat, 01/17/2009 - 4:05pm
Boston Police report arresting a 15-year-old for unlawful possession of a firearm after he allegedly tried to get the gun into the Dorchester Education Complex, 9 Peacevale Rd., around 3:25 p.m. yesterday. Police did not say if the incident was related to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old not long after at Gallivan Boulevard and Patterson Street.
The police report suggests the teen may not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier: He allegedly tried going through a metal detector at the front entrance with the gun in his backpack.
Innocent, etc.

If it was the same gun...
...then all the detectives have to do is find a kid who can run 1.2 miles in 5 minutes!

Oh, sure
I wasn't thinking it was the same gun (since BPD already had it in their possession) but that maybe, possibly, the two incidents were connected in another way. Of course, Dorchester
HighEducation Complex is large and they might be totally unrelated. No, I figured
Just seemed like a total Dragnet setup. "Well, Joe, you know what that means." "No, suppose you tell me." "All we've got to do is find a kid who can run 1.2 miles in less than five minutes." [BOWM BOWM BOWWWM]

Not impossible
I'm not saying that that is the same gun but I am just letting eeka know that running 1.2 miles in 5 minutes is not an impossible task, especially for a young man. He'd have to be pretty fit and dressed for the occasion but it's not impossible.
Not impossible, but
If the kid can run a 4:10 mile, someone would have surely noticed, since that's faster than the current high school state champions can run a mile.

At first, I thought you were
At first, I thought you were making the "nuclear hand grenade" joke. :)
I heard it as part of some stand-up routine during the Cold War, something like: "Hey, did you hear the US Army has invented a *nuclear hand grenade*? ... Now they just need to find a soldier who can run 10 miles in 3 seconds."
here's something to consider.....
Everyone is so wound up that this kid could not possibly have run 1.2 miles in 5 minutes, but easily he could have jumped in a car with someone and made it in that time easily.
