Cambridge to hold community meeting on murder in Danehy Park

The city will hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss the Jan. 2 bludgeoning death of Paul Wilson in Danehy Park.

In addition to city officials, Cambridge Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office will have representatives at the meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Peabody School auditorium, 70 Rindge Ave. Staff from the Riverside Trauma Center will be available for support.

Anyone with information about Wilson's murder can contact State Police at 781-897-6600.

Y'know, this used to happen all the time, what with the housing project nearby and all, and there was no need for a meeting then. You move to Cambridge, you take the consequences, gentrifiers.

This isn't 1984, honey. Cambridge is full of old people - just look at the census stats. If that's gentrification, it started a very very long time ago.

Paul Wilson, a resident of a nearby apartment complex for more than 20 years, died of his injuries at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital just hours after the attack.

any community meetings on her? last i heard (in july) cambridge police were handing out fliers and asking witnesses to contact them with information. they were trying to ID a person seen in the area on bicycle. then the story just disappeared? any updates on 15 year old rishelle robinson??

Gunfire is a monthly headline in my (Area 4). Three weeks ago there was a car-to-car gun battle in Cambridgeport. East Cambridge has regular gun incidents.

Nothing to see here folks move along.

But when shit like this happens north and west of Prospect Street, it actually seems to matter. Locate it near Dunster House, or Liz Warren’s manse and you’re up to your eyes in stepped up police presence and grief counselors.

Gun battles are scary and should be taken seriously by police, but at least has a context and likely explanation. I don’t think you can compare that to a long term resident homeowner, seemingly uninvolved with his attackers, being beaten to death with an unknown weapon by unknown persons, in a quiet park usually occupied with kids, dog walkers and commuters, footsteps from his home at 6:30 pm! Investigators have not released ANY explanation or context for how or why this happened. So yea of course there’s stepped up police and of course people are rattled and there’s a meeting...

6'-6" man randomly beaten to death in a small neighborhood park. When I first heard about it, I assumed he was homeless.. Many homeless are older men and they make easy targets.

The largest in Cambridge, except possibly the land part of Fresh Pond reservation. (And one where I have always felt quite safe, despite being more than a foot shorter than Mr. Wilson.)

Would there have been a community meeting called about the crime? I would hope so, but I don't know. I think there might be some merit to the accusations that some victims (or zip codes) seem to "matter" more than others.

I think the point here has shifted, but I don't even think its debatable that some zip codes matter more. That's clear as day if you've ever lived in rough area. Good for them for responding with what seems like action. It's always good to get people in a neighborhood on point with what's happening
