Do people who set up businesses in JP look around before they sign their leases?
City Feed opens up half a block from one of a very small # of 24x7 convenience marts. OK, one caters to hipsters and the other to drug addicts and Boston EMS, but still.
Gharzal opens THREE DOORS away from Bukhara...serving virtually identical fare.
And now we have Goodwill opening less than a block from Boomerangs?

Yeah--it is a little strange. I am really happy that Goodwill is coming and all but I wonder how they will get enough donations with Boomerangs as competition--and Boomerangs has had a pretty long dry-spell since people have gotten a little less generous with their old junk since the downturn.
Why we need two mediocre Indian restaurants is also a question I have.

Boomerangs was asked about this in the Gazette -- they rightfully pointed out that thrift stores don't really compete -- it's impossible for them both to have the same things. As far as I'm concerned, the more thrift stores the better. I'll definitely shop at both!

I can imagine two thrift stores opening within a block of each other increasing each other's business, as that block becomes more of a draw for thrifty shoppers.
Better than Foot Locker
Psyched! That Foot Locker was trouble and the empty store front is depressing. There used to be a Goodwill or a Morgan Memorial (?) next to Boomerangs on Centre until a few years ago, and there was not competition. Just goodness.
Was hoping for better
While I agree a vacant storefront is no good... I was hoping for something better for a space that is essentially the heart of the Centre St. area. City Feed put a ton of work into its storefront and interior.. and it's a place to be proud of. The same with Vee Vee, Salmagundi, and Salon 8. I'm hoping for the same type of upgrade from the burned row of storefronts now being rebuilt a few blocks north. I can see Goodwill being an upgrade from a vacant storefront.. but little else.
