MBTA: Out-of-state teen with loaded gun arrested inside South Station

MBTA Transit Police report arresting a teen from upstate New York with a loaded gun in his backpack yesterday morning.

Police say officers were investigating a report of an "aggresive" panhandler by the Amtrak ticket counter shortly after 9 a.m. when they noticed another guy apparently sleeping on a bench, his backpack as a pillow. They tried to rouse him to make sure he was OK. When they asked if he were on any drugs, he said something about some "weed," police say. When they asked if he had anything in his backpack, police say, he shifted its position and appeared to become very nervous, One thing led to another and one of the officers wound up feeling what was obviously a gun in the backpack, at which point he yelled "gun!" and yanked the pack away from the guy and pushed him toward the other officer, who immediately "secured" him, according to a police report.

Drake Scott, 19, of the Rochester suburb of Henrietta, was then arrested on charges of illegal possession of a gun and ammunition - the four rounds police say they found in the gun.

Innocent, etc.
