Man arrested for punching, kicking dog, oh, and for outstanding warrants

TavaresBoston Police report a Roxbury man initially stopped for allegedly punching and kicking a dog he was walking last evening turned out to be wanted for other charges as well.

Police say officers responded to Columbus and Walnut avenues around 6:40 p.m. when somebody called to complain about a guy attacking his dog.

Police say that after officers learned Darryl Tavares, 47 of Roxbury, was wanted on a variety of warrants, including breaking and entering, Tavares ran away, but proved no match for the pursuing cops.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Tavares was charged with cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct.

At his arraignment today, Roxbury District Court Judge Lawrence McCormick set bail at $200, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. However, if he makes bail, he won't get a chance to enjoy freedom, because Plymouth Superior Court would want to have a word with him first about a possible violation of his parole on a 2003 conviction of larceny as a habitual offender, the DA's office says.

Innocent, etc.
