Violence erupts again in Tufts Medical Center garage; two charged with stabbing, beating

Boston Police report a man was found beaten and stabbed around 2:40 a.m. today in a stairwell at the garage at 274 Tremont St.

The victim was taken to the medical center for treatment of what police say was non-life-threatening injuries.

Javier Fernandez, 35, of Dorchester, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, a knife. Jose Lugo, 31, of Hyde Park, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. Police say security personnel from the medical center and a nearby club helped find and arrest the two.

On March 26, three men were charged with beating and attempting to kidnap a man in the garage.

Innocent, etc.

I wonder how many more times this is going to have to happen before Tufts decides it's a good idea to have security on EVERY floor of that garage-- God only knows they generate enough revenue from that place to staff it!

Every time I drive by that place/park inside on the weekends/etc. there's MAYBE three marked Tufts security personelle. Maybe. The place has 6 floors and is a goddamned labyrinth. I'm not surprised this shit goes unnoticed until it's too late.

... Then again, it's a guaranteed feeder for the hospital, so I guess it makes sense...

If you truly want to feel safe wherever you go, go and get your concealed carry permit, and carry a legal firearm to protect yourself. If you get jumped in the stairwell of some parking garage, how many times are you going to get stabbed before the "security guard" is going to show up??

... Which is why I have mine, and legally exercise my right every time I leave the house :)

My comment was more directed at the inevitable moment when something happens in that garage and someone decides to bring suit against Tufts. It's a known fact that the security in the garage is horrible, and on top of that, they don't even patrol/monitor the structure.

It is my understanding that Tufts Medical Center has a contract with the Tremont Street Garage and that Tufts Medical Center "Security" personnel are supplemental to garage personnel. I find it hard to believe that you can pay $27 for a few hours of parking and expect a "security" guard that gets paid $12 an hour, to jump in front of you and a bullet, to make sure you get to your BMW safely. There have been no news stories of any shootings, stabbings, or kidnappings in Tufts Medical Center. Instead of criticizing Tufts Medical Center "security" personnel, maybe you should be re-examining the contracts Tremont Street Garage has with several known violent nightclubs in the area.

I used to work the night shift there for about five years until 2007. The stories I have could honestly fill a book. I was witness to more fights than I can remember, not to mention shootings and stabbings.
