Shots fired in Roxbury
By adamg on Fri, 05/23/2014 - 1:23pm
Around 1:10 p.m. at Aspen and Dunreath streets. Police are looking for three suspects, all black, all 18-20. The gunman, who did not hit anybody, was wearing a green or fatigue-style shirt. Another of the three had a blue sweater on.

18 wheel bike
And fatigue-style shit. Nice!
Yes, I'm on a role, um, roll this week
Fixed.
Any chance we could start
Any chance we could start getting teenagers to value life anytime soon?
You tell me
Any chance we, as a society, could start valuing poor black teenagers' lives any time soon?
We?
I don't know about you, but most of the posters here are not shooting up their neighborhoods with illegal firearms.
What caused you to draw the
What caused you to draw the conclusion that society does not care about poor black teenager's lives?
There are youth sports leagues, GREAT program, DARE program, Project DEEP, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brother, parishes and schools that keep gyms open during the evening for the youth to play, scholarship programs, sometimes DCF seems to have some positive outcomes. What else can society do?
Gee, nothing, I guess. Those
Gee, nothing, I guess. Those people must be beyond any possible help, amirite?
I would never say people are
I would never say people are beyond help. I also wouldn't blame society.
What
would you suggest? In addition to that lidt there is government social services, subsidized/free food, subsized/public housing, free schools, cash money in the form of welfare, SSI, etc.
Not to mention
that the neighborhood they're living in is as nice as any I've ever been able to afford to live in. It is time to stop accepting their excuses for their criminal behavior. It will not stop until they can't get away with it anymore.
Enforcing the Law would be a deterrent
THE BARTLEY-FOX LAW, ENACTEDMASSACHUSETTS IN APRIL, 1975, WAS INTENDED TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF GUN RELATED CRIMES AND ILLICIT CARRYING OF FIREARMS.
1 Year Mandatory Jail Time Or Reform School
Massachusetts should open a Bartley-Fox Correctional Facility dedicated to felons convicted under such law
The Gun Owners Action League
The Gun Owners Action League GOAL (of all people) has been asking for that enforcement for years instead of layering more laws for criminals to ignore. The state and judges however do not seem to have an appetite to pay for or sentence offenders to that mandatory minimum with any consistency.
Boston totally cares about black people!
Look at all those volunteer programs that don't mean squat in the grand scheme of things!
Boston really cares: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/2014/05/17/boston-bar-agr...
Really really cares: http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/news/2013/07/17/tufts-health-plan-disc...
Lincoln cares too: http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/lincoln/2013/11/lincoln_public_schoo...
But not quite as much as Boston: http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2012/10/17/haitian-workers-logan-cha...
Boston has a long tradition of caring, and likes to name commuter rail stations after people who care: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/2014/04/28/was-tom-yawkey-b...
And lots of people get in on the fun: http://www.trentonian.com/opinion/20140505/la-parker-if-no-one-stands-up...
But seriously: most black kids in Boston aren't as naive about race as you are. They actually see discrimination firsthand and frequently grow up with enormous cynicism, and don't really care that a handful of white people will hang out with them every other weekend.
I'd like to stand up and
I'd like to stand up and thank you for shitting on all those volunteer and social programs and the people who try to reach out to urban kids, because you found some cases of discrimination in the news. So the efforts of good people mean nothing as long as there some bad people around?
Frames of thinking
The truth is rarely found in just one perspective and responsibility is rarely just one way. Childen in Boston (all races) face lots of serious obstacles. But there are lots of families, teachers, organizations, churches and neighbors who are totally dedicated to supporting children and building up healthy neighborhoods.
What frame of thinking works best for you? If you are child or young adult -- is it healthier to believe that crime is the inevitable outcome of your life or that you have lots of great choices open to you? If you are an adult with talents & time to share, is it better to think that all is lost or that you have lots of options for getting involved in a positive way in your community?
By the way, in addition to the formal volunteer networks and programs, there are lots of ways that adults get involved in normal day-to-day interactions to support kids. Think of all the neighborhood stores that are friendly places for kids to come to, or the parks, playgrounds, etc., where neighbors are friendly to each other.
shirt* ? :)
shirt* ? :)
Stinky criminals!
Wearing green and/or fatigue-colored shit sure is a good way to keep the law's hands off of you!
Anti-gun billboard for Aspen and Dunreath?
If only the three suspects had seen the anti-gun billboard about to be removed along the Pike.
typical boston shooting but
typical boston shooting but missing and of course making a big deal out of it. if Boston had a decent crime rate murders would be around 50 right now but its not even half that. shit even Indianapolis has 61 murders so far.
OK, enough
We get it - Boston is safer than some other cities. Please stop talking about how we need a "decent" murder rate.
