Two teens arrested for armed robbery in East Boston; third suspect at large

Boston Police report arresting the teens, 18 and 16, Thursday night for a robbery on Brooks Street and a robbery attempt at Lubec and Gove streets that the victim foiled by yelling at them.

According to police the two, plus a still at large companion, went up to a man around 8:40 p.m. outside 44 Brooks St.:

One of the suspects had an unknown object wrapped in a piece of clothing which he stuck into the ribs of the victim, leading him to believe it was some sort of weapon. The three suspects took the victim’s gym bag which contained personal items then fled the area on foot.

Around 10:35 p.m., police responded to another armed-robbery call at Lubec and Gove:

Officers spoke to the second victim who stated that three suspects had just attempted to rob him but that he had yelled and screamed so loudly that the suspects fled the area on foot.

Police report officers quickly found and IDed Gerard Divenuti, 18, of East Boston and the 16-year-old, not named because of his age. Divenuti was charged with armed robbery, the other teen with being delinquent for armed robbery.

Innocent, etc.

Few parents can successfully insist on a 10pm curfew for an 18 year old- and that is assuming he is still living at home- and we don't even know the age of the third participant. And many parents already have their hands full with a 16 year old- when one can no longer insist they attend school, an early school-night curfew becomes increasingly difficult. Parents with the resources to provide such extras as cell phones and cars may be able to keep youths this age in line, but I'm going to assume that these parents are most likely busy working a second job to make ends meet at that hour.... That question would apply if the miscreants had been 12 and 14, or if the 16 year old had been out at 2am, but at some point we have to begin to hold our children responsible for their own choices.
