DA: Eight teens stomp woman on Silver Line bus near Nubian Square; one is charged so far for repeatedly punching, kicking her

A routine ride on the Silver Line to Nubian Square turned into a terror trip for one woman, who was punched and kicked to the floor, where she huddled into the fetal position, by a group of eight teenagers who set on her for no particular reason, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

One of the eight, a 16-year-old from Revere, has been arrested for the attack, shortly after 11 p.m. on a Silver Line bus heading down Washington Street, the DA's office says, adding the hunt for the other seven continues.

That teen was already out on bail on an unrelated assault case, but Boston Juvenile Court Peter Coyne revoked that bail for two months at her arraignment on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and unarmed robbery, the DA's office says.

According to the DA's office:

At about 11:13 p.m. on July 2, the victim, a 35-year-old woman, was observed on video entering a Nubian Square-bound Silver Line car and standing near the back door. Minutes later, a juvenile male is seen walking toward the victim and throwing what appear to be potato chips at her head. The victim is seen turning around to see who threw the chips, and then turned back in an apparent attempt to ignore the juveniles.

Another juvenile is then seen squeezing a bottle of lotion onto the victim’s hair, face and body. The victim moves toward the juvenile in an apparent attempt to prevent him from squirting more lotion. At that point, another juvenile pushes the victim down to the floor, and the other juveniles, girls and boys, join the attack, punching and kicking the victim as she lies in a self-protective position on the floor.

The Revere juvenile is seen on video striking the victim in the head with a closed fist about seven times. She is also seen kicking the victim in the head and face about three times.

During the attack, some of the juveniles are seen opening and rummaging through the victim’s handbag. One of the juveniles is seen taking the victim’s phone and placing it in his pocket.

All of the juveniles exited the bus after it arrived at Nubian Station. The victim sustained a bloody nose and other facial bruising but did not require hospitalization.

The DA's office says Transit Police have tracked the group back to the AMC South Bay Center move complex where "theater personnel that evening had reported a large group of juveniles causing several disturbances."

This weeks like an attack that would have been noticed by the driver. We aren’t talking about an unattended train car, this is a bus with a driver. It seems like the driver should have a panic button that can be pressed without setting off a visible/audible alarm, similar to a bank. The MBTA knows the bus route and more or less when it will arrive at each stop. Transit police or BPD should be equipped to meet a bus (or train) so that people don’t get away in cases like this. It’s like that horror show on the red line a few weeks ago - but this time, there is no excuse that the driver didn’t know.

They must have something, I’ve seen buses flashing call 911 or police on the route indicator.

Before cell phones and radio contact, the T drive could press a button which activated Green Lights on the back and front of the bus which would signal police going by.

Now there is a button which makes the sign board say "Call Police" and I assume send a distress call.

Silver Line buses are long. A driver may not know what has been going on in the back. Then again owing that attacks continue on drivers unabated and you are working on a Sunday night shift, might you not give a fuck since you are getting paid just above what a cashier at Star might be getting paid? Why take a few punches if you don't have too.

I know Mayor Wu doesn't control the T but since she needs to curry favor with voters outside JP / Cambridge / Brookline / Provincetown / Truro / Newton / Amherst and Northampton when she plans to run for Senate. Perhaps working the BPD with T Police together to perhaps knock a few skulls might make people not forget but still look the other way about her still tacit support of Rappin' Ricky and Crash Car Kendra.

I just hope the kid being locked up doesn't miss his chance to get into CalTech because of this prosecution.

I am correctly understanding a call for the extra judicial action here John?

You can just keep scrolling if reading my posts is too exhausting!

And trust me, I made these posts in between Sunday chores like laundry, groceries, deep cleaning the cats litter box, wikipedia searches about Doctor Who and a little bit of the Space: Above and Beyond pilot that I found randomly on YouTube!

Reminds me of the “Wilding” assaults back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Particularly the Kimberly Rae Harbor’s homicide on Halloween night 1990 up at Franklin Field.

A real Nasty one, stabbed 133 times, raped with tree branches. Three of the Pistons street gang doing life w/o parole. (Yet).

I would have no problem seeing these teens do hard time, including a transfer to an adult facility at age 18. Don't give a shit about their rehabilitation, just want them off the streets and all other shitty teens to understand the consequences.

The 16 year old is already out on bail on another assault case and I'd be surprised if that's the only other thing on the record. Based on the other case they can probably charge her as a "youthful offender" where she will not walk at 18 but will have to serve the full adult sentence as imposed.

Charge the parents if you’re unwilling to charge the kids. One was already out on bail. What are the odds for some or all of the other 7 having a violent history too?

they do have their own agency.

Aspects of American culture are toxic, especially that of "the streets," and parents don't have absolute control.

How long until it closes? Already did in the Fenway, Copley along with the general trend towards home streaming.

I don't go to any theaters other than the Brattle, Kendall, Dedham, Somerville, Coolidge, the Harvard Film Archive, and the Capitol in Arlington.

and the Boston Common during a weekday for select films.

...did the woman say or do anything to provoke the kids? and I don't mean just on the bus? Those videos typically don't have sound. If they did, it would be extremely helpful.

I say this because it's possible the woman could have said or done something racist prior to the incident. If that is the case, it's a racist Karen getting owned. Otherwise, it's an unruly kid as everyone is assuming.

Assault is assault, even if it is on Karen.

No excuses!
