The Haley School in Roslindale has alerted parents and staffers that one of its students was seriously injured in a fireworks explosion on July 5th, and points them to a GoFundMe page set up by his mom, which says that in addition to losing most of his fingers on one hand, he suffered serious facial injuries and faces a series of operations.

Republicans in Congress this week stripped $850,000 that would help finish the conversion of a former Hyde Park middle school into an affordable apartment building aimed at LGBTQ seniors, but the work continues and the new building still expects to welcome its first residents early next year, one of the project's organizers said this morning. The state Ethics Commission reported yesterday that City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo (Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale) has paid a $3,000 fine for not withdrawing as a lawyer, after his election, from the lawsuit his brother, former City Councilor and mayoral aide Felix Arroyo, filed against the city over his firing. Smoke over New England

A bit subtle, but Nova Scotia smoke over eastern Mass. at 12:36 p.m, via the GOES East satellite.

The National Weather Service office in Norton reports that smoke from raging fires north of Halifax has been blown down here. And unlike with the Alberta smoke, which stayed high up in the atmosphere: Read more.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the pilot of a Massachusetts Air National Guard F-15 flew low over Hyde Park and Roslindale on the way to participate in the rededication of the Fallen Heroes Memorial on Northern Avenue in South Boston.
