On the 5:40 Franklin Line train last night passengers got to listen to this odd little exchange over the intercom:
Man: Hello, Mo.
(minute passes)
Man: Helloooo, Mo.
Woman: Hello.
Man: Got a flashlight?
Nothing after that, so we were only left to wonder why the man needed a flashlight so badly, and if Mo had one or not.

Flashlight
You should be aware that the conductors are positioned along the train for a couple of reasons. One to divide and control the ticket collection process. Two, to confirm their sections readiness to leave each station stop. The conductor is responsible for seeing the commuters get off the train safely before the train resumes the journey. The conductors signal to each other their readiness to leave each stop, and then the lead conductor signals to the engineer who gets the train moving. In the dark, without a flashlight, such signals are hard to see.
Bike Headlights work Too!
I have a five LED detachable bike headlight. One night, when riding back from Lowell, the conductors, offered to give me the ride and extra stop to West Medford for free if I handed over my headlight until I got off.
One of their flashlights was dead and they needed my light for the reasons mentioned above. They knew I typically exited at Wedgemere, but sometimes got off at West Medford (at that time it was $1.00 more interzone). I took the deal, and they handed the light back when I got off. I guess they could get a new one or new batteries at North Station, which is lit.
