Nomination for Best Globe Story Comment of the Year
By Brett on Tue, 09/01/2009 - 1:23pm
Right in the story about the crashed plane on 495:
I just want to say that while I'm very grateful that the pilot and passenger are all right, I'm tired of all these pilots acting as though they don't have to obey the rules of the road! Swerving between traffic, ignoring red lights, landing on highways -- it's going to cause a tragedy one of these days!
In conclusion, I hope that everyone will support the creation of more airplane lanes on our streets.

yes!
winner for best comment ever. i love it.
also love all the arguing about the type of plane, the landing gear etc... and the use of the word "impact."
made my day...
we who live in a glass condo shouldn't throw gravel
...because I've seen (and participated in) just as stupid arguments and segues here :)
Obviously, someone was
Obviously, someone was disappointed by the lack of flying cars in the 21st century.
I don't get it. Is it
I don't get it. Is it mocking the idea of criticizing bikers because the author feels riding a bicycle in Boston is the equivalent of a crashing-airplane emergency and thus no rules should apply? Or is it mocking the creation of special privileges for bikers because the author feels bikers overstate the dangers they face? Or are you taking it as pure surreal humor about Boston street wars? In any case, a poorly constructed joke I'm not in on.
We think you take yourself
We think you take yourself too seriously.
Poorly Constructed? NOT!
You might not like the humor, or get the humor, but it's brilliantly constructed.

I believe the "confused" nature of the argument was on purpose
...to make it impossible to read any bias and thus focus on simply making fun of the absurd free-for-all that erupts any time bikers vs. drivers comes up. I actually became convinced it was purposeful when I read the last sentence (which I accidentally trimmed), which flips things around again.
Either that, or the poster was high as a kite. Either way, the result is hilarious and does a good job of keeping people from playing Captain Oblivious and starting a big argument about Cagers, or Dang Bikers, Git Off Mah Road.
No, you sure don't
Once again I find myself agreeing with SulDog. Not understanding a joke does not make it a bad joke, as my siblings and I keep telling Mom Billy. Wait... Mom, is that you? Have you nothing better to do in your retirement?
The comment ignores the real dangers
It isn't the cars or the planes, but the chickens who are the worst offenders. Like the deer and turkey, the chicken crosses the road for random and unknown reasons, doesn't use the crosswalks and lights, and is often on its cel phone.
Why is there no outcry or enforcement against these scofflaw jaywalkers?
And sometimes...
...the damn chickens jaywalk into jet engines!
