The hazard of rewriting press releases as news

The Names column of today's Globe reports:

"And newly minted Pulitzer Prize-winner Geraldine Brooks headlined a PEN/New England panel, ''The Pen and the Sword: Writing and Expression in Wartime," Thursday night at the First Parish Church in Cambridge... Brooks ... was joined in the discussion by author and Globe op-ed columnist James Carroll, Iraq war veteran and author Nathaniel Fick, author Uzodinma Iweala, and author and instructor Rebecca Faery."

Only problem is, James Carroll wasn't there. As the discussion moderator announced, Carroll had gone to New York City to attend the funeral of Rev. William Sloane Coffin. Obviously the Globe reporter wasn't at the discussion either.
