Stop the War: ANOTHER alternative to the St. Patrick's Day parade

Let's show how blue a state we really are. Come to the anti-war rally on Sunday, March 20 on Boston Common, starting at 12:30 pm. You can go to this, stay an hour or two, and still have plenty of time to make it to First Parish Dorchester's 375th anniversary celebration.

Remember: Every dollar spent continuing to occupy Iraq is a dollar not spent at home for better health care, better transit, or better schools.

Anyone heading to the Boston Common for the anti-war rally will be heading for a rally long on anti-America, anti-Israel rhetoric and -I suspect- short on rationality.

I came late and stayed for just a tad over an hour. However, as much the overwroughtness of a number of the speakers bothered me, I still don't belie√e that criticizing our govt's or Israel's policies is anti-American, or anti-Israel. However, I agree that the way certain people sometimes get their message across, it often comes off that way. I admit to being no friend of G. W. Bush and his policies, nor do I like Ariel Sharon, and that a two-state solution is the only solution to the Israeli-Arab conflict. However, I also agree that there's an equal amount of fault on all sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict; it's the fault of the Arab countries, the Palestinians and their leadership, and of Israel as well. What I find bothersome is the fact that some of the speakers did not take into account the fact that there is also an equal amount of fault in the Arab world, including the Palestinians, for the 50-some-odd year conflict. Just my two cents.

Being against Bush, Republicans, Sharon, and Likud is not the same as being "anti-American" or "anti-Israeli".

However, I decided to just go and be counted, and felt that carrying a sign against our Iraq war wouldn't be necessary, so I just came as I was, listened to some of the speakers. I agree that this war's costing us money that could well be spent at home on healthcare, job training, and many, many other things here. Better Transit and better schools are also on the agenda, not to mention repairing horrible potholes, AND the proposed Green Line Extension into Somerville.

By the way, I was at the hearing at Somerville high school last Monday night. Great showing. I ended up on the balcony.
