Anyone aware of any stores in the Boston/Somerville area holding any Heady Topper? Please?

I got a case right before the brewery retail operation shut down.

Red's in Rozzie had some a few months ago. We were told that someone had made a special trip to VT to get it.

Do yourself a favor. Have an adventure and try other brews you've never tried instead of trying to find something no longer made. Merry Christmas.

Heady is still being made. Just not sold at their brewery due to the heavy demand. They are trying to open a new retail shop in Waterbury vt

I've tried a lot of beers and Heady is definitely the best beer I've ever had. But the good news for us is that boston has one of the best craft beer scenes in the country. Plenty of good substitutes right here that don't constitute a 3 hour drive

The brewery just doesn't open their doors to customers anymore. However, great point on trying something else. Check out Jack's Abby "Kiwi Rising" if you come across that one. If you like hoppy floral beers, that one will satisfy.

The harpoon leviathian IPA is the closest thing I've tasted to heady. Jacks Abby hopious union was good as well

You can hike over or take the SilverLie from South Station over to the Brewery and Pub and get a growler of just about any of Harpoon's IPAs and some of the Leviathans, too. Their taps rotate seasonally - http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/breweries/boston/BeersinourStoreandonTap

(note that Leviathan IPA is currently available via growler)

The brewery doesn't distribute for retail sale outside a ~30 mile radius (Northern/Central VT)

back when the case limit was six, (that ended late last spring) there were several places that would make the trek north and then resell it. I've had one at Red's, Lower Depths, Lord Hobo, and some random Chinese restaurant on the North shore, but now that the case limit is 1 it's not worth the effort to head up there for reselling.

i know that, as of this weekend, the Hunger Mountain CO-OP in Montpelier has a stash, and their limit is a case.

Ha. Good luck with that one. I've seen it occasionally at Lower Depths, Lord Hobo, and there has always been a rumor that you can get it at Eastern Standard.

Honestly, other brewers are starting to catch up to Heady (not there yet though). Try Hoponius Union or Kiwi Rising from Jack's Abbey. Or go the adventure route and make the long trip north in search of Heady.

As wonderful as this beer is, would anyone else agree with me that it's one of, it not the most, overrated beer in the country?

Until a few days ago this woman would sell you a case for $250.

because, as I have learned to my detriment, they are typically sold out by Friday evening until the following Tuesday. There are other outlets in northern VT (someone mentioned Hunger Mtn Co-op in Montpelier), but it's really hit or miss.

Best course of action: spend a couple of days in beautiful northern Vermont skiing etc. and find some on the side.

Probably going to regret spilling these beans, but: Treetop Brewing, out near Worcester, makes an imperial IPA of their own, Julius. You can bring your own glass to fill on Thursdays and Saturdays. It might not be 100% the experience of Heady Topper, but it's stylistically pretty close, and you don't have to make the pilgrimage to Vermont or pay hundreds of dollars for the experience.

Treehouse is fantastic.

It is a great beer, that can't be questioned. Make a weekend of it and go to Waterbury then head across state to Hill Farmstead...it's kind of the Field of Dreams in the craft beer world and I think it's as good, if not better, than Heady. Bring cash.

Hear, hear. Get on AirBNB, make a trip to Waterbury for the weekend with friends, and spend a couple evenings at the Prohibition Pig. They'll have Heady and Hill Farmstead's world-beating beers along with fantastic food..

This would be my idea of a perfect weekend.

Walnut Market in Newton has it all the time. Join the email list and you can buy it. Few problems, though, #1 it's warm, #2 you pay out the ass for it and #3 one per customer unless you buy another one of the specials.

If you want a good beer at good price drive up to Newburyport Brewing Company and buy a growler of the double IPA.
