Man with VR headset walks down Beacon Street in Brookline

Last month, a Green Line rider gained some measure of notoriety - and the disapproval of police - when he was spotted wearing virtual-reality goggles on a C trolley.

This afternoon, Mike the roving UHub photographer spotted him just walking down Beacon Street in Brookline, which for us non-VR types raises the question of whether you can actually see through the goggles or if hes perhaps using them to navigate via a live feed from a camera mounted on the goggles.

Around 11:30 a.m. at Beacon and Charles streets. WCVB reports a passenger on the scooter survived, but was rushed to the hospital.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the driver of a car with New York plates rolled over on Beacon Street at Carlton in Brookline, shutting both the road and the Green Line, Nick Barber reports.

Smashed car on Beacon Street at Exeter in the Back Bay

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Beacon Street at Exeter, Stanley Staco reports. The driver got out, jumped into a BMW X5 that sped off towards Storrow Drive.

WBZ reports the driver was drag racing another vehicle when he jumped the curb and hit the pedestrian. Read more.

The Boston Fire Department reports a bottle of hydrochloric acid started leaking in the back of a FedEx truck parked outside BU's Myles Standish Hall on Beacon Street, at Bay State Road, around 4:45 p.m. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the owners of the shuttered Sa Pa Vietnamese restaurant on Beacon Street in Cleveland Circle as a sit-down Asian restaurant with a bar.

Manager Frank Schillace said the previous "Chipotle-like" format, in which customers would order, cafeteria style, then find a seat, proved to be a money loser - $20,000 to $30,000 a month, he told the board at a hearing today. Read more.

Quality Mart on Mass. Ave. at Beacon Street reports it was held up this morning by this guy - and is asking anybody who sees him to contact Boston Police.

Wicked Local Brookline (of course) reports a resident called 911 to report "vicious turkeys" on Lancaster Terrace near Beacon Street and that she "wanted them removed from Brookline."

Also check out the 911 calls about people pooping in buckets along the Muddy River and a woman who suspiciously tied some balloons to a parking meter.

New lane markings at Massachusetts Avenue and Beacon Street in the Back Bay

Penny Cherubino at BostonZest shows us the newly re-striped intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Beacon Street this morning.

Electronic signboards now warn motorists to "BE ALERT FOR CYCLISTS."

The intersection is where Anita Kurmann was struck and killed by a semi while bicycling earlier this month.

Repaving project Mass Ave and Beacon

After working overnight doing preparation work Thursday and Friday, crews are repaving Massachusetts Avenue from the intersection of Beacon Street to Marlborough Street today.

A construction worker told a detail police officer that they hoped to complete this part of the project today.

Ghost bike in Boston

Deborah Elizabeth Finn attended the memorial ceremony this evening for Dr. Anita Kurmann, who died in a collision with a flatbed truck earlier this month. At the ceremony, a white "ghost bike" was placed where she died.

A Boston Police spokesman said this morning the investigation into the collision continues; no charges have been brought.

Bicyclists will gather Thursday evening to place a white "ghost bike" where Anita Kurmann died last week in a collision with a flatbed truck at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Beacon Street.

Kurmann, 38, was a Swiss doctor doing post-graduate work at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She died at an intersection identified as the most dangerous one in the city for bicyclists.

The memorial begins at 6:30 p.m.

A woman in her 30s was hit sometime before 7:30 a.m. at Mass. Ave. and Beacon Street, was pronounced dead not long after. The truck was turning right onto Beacon from Mass. Ave.
