The Boston Licensing Board decides Thursday whether Alex's Market, 322 Talbot Ave. in Dorchester, deserves any punishment for the way a customer walked out of the store and immediately popped open one of the 25-oz. Natural Ice cans he'd just purchased and guzzled some down - and then handed another one to an acquaintance. Read more.

Boston Harbor Hotel managers said today they will no longer allow members of the public onto a dock on which it offers live musical performances after an August incident in which a couple fell off the dock into the briny shallow - ironically while dancing to the theme song from the movie "Footloose." CarCarll captured the helicopter lowering a new HVAC unit onto 1 Beacon St. this morning, in an operation that went long enough to make people ask/kvetch why they couldn't do it on a weekday instead of Sunday morning.

The Washington Post reports Amazon appears close to choosing a site near Washington, DC for its massive HQ2 project, based on all the chatter coming out of real-estate circles there, although it adds people there who want the thing worry Amazon could be having similar talks with other contenders.

The current owner of the old Suffolk Downs has said it will go ahead with its massive transformation of the site even without Amazon.

The Charlestown Patriot-Bridge reports that former City Councilor Sal LaMattina has organized a community meeting on a proposal by a company called Bloominus to open a marijuana dispensary at 116 Cambridge St., on the other side of I-93 from Sullivan Square.

The session begins at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
