Trapped on a Green Line trolley - until the smoke poured in
Paula was on a Green Line trolley that pulled into Park Street around 10:10 last night - then just sat there for at least five minutes with the doors shut - until the most rancid, horrible smell you can imagine rolled in:
... All of the sudden, the doors fly open, there are cops and MBTA officials shouting at us, "GET OUT! EVERYBODY OUT! UP THE STAIRS! EVACUATE! GET OUT! GET OUT!"
Now there's smoke billowing out of the Park Street red line platforms. We all run up the stairs, hacking and coughing, and out onto the top of the common. Hundreds of people are all just standing around, looking confused. Everybody's on their cellphone. As far as I could see, there were no cops - maybe a couple of MBTA officials. ...

here are cops and MBTA
And then....
What's wrong with this picture?
These occur
in two different places; (1) the train underground and (2) above ground outside of the station. No one said that the cops escorted the passengers above ground.
They were downstairs trying to clear the stations out
Not on the surface. Informing people about shuttle buses takes a backseat (ouch, I know) to saving lives.
All hands on deck today though
Every stop I have visited today appears to have extra personnel (including cops) hanging around. I am guessing this is going to be a very expensive week for overtime.
