MBTA: SNAFU

Where to begin? Oh, yeah, with the fire at Chinatown on the Orange Line that stopped service. Then there's the downed wire at Wood Island, leading to premature termination of the Blue Line at Maverick. The Red Line had a recalcitrant switch at Alewife. And the Green Line has turned into the Snail Line.

On a positive note, no delays reported on the Mattapan Line.

City seeks help from motorists to identify ice-encrusted traffic lights

No lights

BTD is seeking the public's help in finding traffic lights obscured by ice, such as these puppies on Washington Street at the West Roxbury Parkway, where southbound motorists, being Bostonians, are just barreling through the intersection rather than stopping to see if maybe motorists on the parkway (or the opposite direction on Washington) have the light. Call 617-635-4500 to request a deicing crew.

Snowmobile

Luke managed to get a shot of somebody on the turnpike who clearly spent sheer seconds clearing the car off.

Dove right in

Kat Monaghan noticed something a little different on Bennet Street behind Tufts Medical Center. Wonder if he's friends with the invisible panhandler.

We do our part to help struggling actors like Tom Cruise

CommonWealth reports on an analysis of the impact of state tax credits for movie making:

Of the $195 million paid out in wages, 78 percent went to nonresidents, with $82 million going to a handful of actors like Tom Cruise who earned more than $1 million per production. ... The state collected 13 cents in new tax revenue for every dollar it spent on the film tax credit, the report says.

Track fire at Downtown Crossing disrupts Red Line service

Smoke from what the MBTA described as "a minor grease fire" on the southbound side could be smelled as far away as Broadway, but the Boston Fire Department gave the T permission to resume service around 9 a.m.
