Boston Restaurant Talk reports Flat Top Johnny's has canceled its plans to open a location in Allston, claiming that people who actually live there opposed the idea.

The neighborhood was strongly against us moving in and we are not the kind of business to ignore their wishes.

Downed transformer and pole on fire in Allston

Gamma Ray Digital had a front-row seat from across the turnpike this morning as a utility pole topped with a transformer fell across Lincoln Street near Everett Street in Allston, ending with not one but three explosions and, of course, a smoke-belching fire. Read more.

WCVB reports an Allston man turned himself into police on charges of sexual contact with an animal, cruelty to animals and nighttime breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.

Boston University President Robert Brown said today that optimism that all Boston University employees would get vaccinated against the virus proved unwarranted, so the school is now requiring that everybody who gets a BU paycheck either show proof of vaccination by Sept. 2 - or really good proof why they should be exempted for medical or religious reasons. National Development told the BPDA this week it will soon file plans for a three-building, 700,000-square-foot life-sciences R&D complex at 1170 Soldiers Field Rd., where WBZ long maintained a backup AM tower and where the TV station lands its helicopter. Read more.

Possible next-gen Huntington Avenue, with transit/bike lanes on either side.

MBTA planners tomorrow will discuss potential new designs for the Green Line along between Brigham Circle and Heath Street and along Commonwealth Avenue with the goal to make the two branches more easily accessible to people with mobility issues. Read more.

Arroyo: Social-equity lens needed for Boston dog-park needs.

City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan) says it's way past time for Boston to begin installing dog parks outside the "high income neighborhoods" he says have them now - and that the city should be planning them first, rather than waiting for organized groups of dog owners with discretionary income to push for them.
